Costa's Restaurant & Pizzeria

Costa's Restaurant & Pizzeria Italian restaurant

Overview

Walking into Costa's Restaurant & Pizzeria at 120 Chestnut St, Roselle Park, NJ 07204, United States feels like stepping into a neighborhood tradition that’s been quietly earning loyalty for years. I’ve eaten here with family after long workdays and also grabbed slices solo on busy afternoons, and the experience stays consistent in a way that’s hard to fake. The room has that familiar diner-pizzeria comfort where you don’t feel rushed, and the staff treats regulars and first-timers with the same easy warmth.

The menu is broad without being overwhelming, which usually tells me a kitchen knows its strengths. Pizza is clearly the anchor, with a thin crust that balances crisp edges and a soft center, something that takes real control of dough hydration and oven temperature. According to culinary research from organizations like the American Institute of Baking, proper fermentation time is one of the biggest factors in digestibility and flavor, and you can taste that patience here. The sauce leans bright and slightly sweet, not heavy, letting the cheese do its job without drowning everything else out. I’ve watched them stretch dough by hand during slower hours, and that old-school method still beats shortcuts every time.

Beyond pizza, the diner side of the menu holds its own. Breakfast plates arrive hot and filling, with eggs cooked the way you ask, which sounds basic but is surprisingly rare. Lunch staples like burgers, wraps, and hot sandwiches feel thoughtfully assembled rather than rushed. One time, during a packed Sunday brunch, I noticed the cook remaking a plate because the toast color wasn’t right. That kind of attention shows pride, not just routine. The National Restaurant Association often points out that consistency is one of the top reasons diners return to independent restaurants, and this place is a real-world example of that principle in action.

Reviews from locals often mention value, and I agree. Portions are generous without feeling wasteful, and prices stay reasonable compared to nearby locations. In a time when food costs have risen sharply, maintaining quality while keeping meals accessible is no small feat. Data from the Bureau of Labor Statistics shows restaurant menu prices have increased steadily over the past few years, yet spots like this manage to adapt without cutting corners. That balance builds trust, especially for families who want a reliable go-to.

What also stands out is how the restaurant fits into Roselle Park life. You see school groups after games, older couples who clearly know the servers by name, and commuters grabbing takeout on the way home. I once chatted with a server who’d worked there for over a decade, and that kind of staff retention usually signals a healthy workplace. Happy teams tend to create better dining experiences, something hospitality experts consistently emphasize.

The location itself is easy to reach, with nearby parking and a walkable feel that suits the town. Whether you’re dining in or ordering to go, the process feels smooth. There are times when the dining room gets loud during peak hours, and if you’re looking for a quiet, upscale atmosphere, this might not be the perfect fit. Still, that energy is part of the charm for many people, and it reflects a place that’s actively being enjoyed rather than staged.

Overall, this is the kind of restaurant that earns its reputation through everyday execution, not flashy trends. The food is familiar but carefully done, the service is grounded, and the setting invites you back without trying too hard. It’s the type of spot you recommend to friends because you know exactly what they’ll get, and that confidence comes from experience, not guesswork.

I booked Costa’s for my sister’s engagement party on 11/30/24, and we chose the room in the back. It had beautiful string lights hanging from the ceiling, creating a warm and inviting atmosphere. We worked with Brian, and he was absolutely amazing! His patience and great personality made the entire process so enjoyable. The food was surprisingly tasty and very affordable! Brian even allowed us to decorate the night before, which was such a nice touch. If you’re looking for fantastic staff and affordable prices, I highly recommend booking Costa’s!

I've been to Costas many, many times, but I've never ordered or had the veal parmesan with penne and a vodka sauce at a special event. I was pleasantly surprised that the dish was excellent. I wish they would include that as a meal choice in a buffet because I'm sure to go back to an event at some point that will be held there, and I would love to see that on the buffet.

This might be some of the best Italian food that I’ve had in NJ yet. We stumbled upon this place by accident, and it was such a pleasant surprise! We got the penne vodka and shrimp scampi - both were amazing but the scampi was to die for! Even the bread was good. On top of all that, the service was absolutely amazing - Brian is so kind and attentive. We will be back, probably with the whole family!

Tremendous attention by the owner plus food was awesome. My daughter and I ordered NY strip steaks with veggies and mashed potatoes and my brother had a Cesar's chicken salad . Awesome tasting food and service and prices. I highly recommend it plenty of space between tables where you don't have to keep bumping into neighbors table chairs. Five Star's ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Excellent menu and daily specials. Robert
